Explore Rovaniemi

By daylight on a guided tour through frozen swamps, snow-covered forests, and pristine Arctic landscapes of Lapland. During the winter months, the low, soft sun casts a magical glow over the snow and ice, illuminating frost-covered trees, frozen waterways, and the sparkling white terrain. Every surface shimmers in the cold daylight, making even familiar landscapes feel extraordinary. This daylight tour offers a serene, immersive way to experience Finnish nature in its purest, most photogenic form, perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking a peaceful Arctic adventure.

Your journey begins

With a gentle walk across the frozen wetlands. In winter, these swamps transform into vast expanses of white, with snow covering every detail and creating a luminous, almost surreal environment. Each step across the compacted snow produces a satisfying crunch, harmonizing with the quiet rhythm of your group moving through the landscape. The silence of Lapland’s winter wilderness is profound; only the occasional bird call or distant rustle reminds you of the life that thrives even in the harsh Arctic conditions. This sense of stillness allows you to slow down, breathe deeply, and fully reconnect with nature.

As the hike continues

You enter a forest blanketed in snow. The trees stand tall and heavy with frost, their branches bending under the weight of ice and snow. The dense forest absorbs sound, amplifying even the softest crunch of footsteps or the whisper of the wind through the branches. Your guide leads the group along trails shaped by the season, sharing fascinating insights into the Arctic ecosystem. You may spot tracks of reindeer, foxes, or small mammals, and learn how these animals adapt to survive the long, cold winters. Birds like the Siberian jay or the great spotted woodpecker can sometimes be seen flitting between branches, adding life and color to the serene white surroundings. This educational component enriches the hike, deepening your understanding of Lapland’s delicate natural balance.

Throughout the adventure

The daylight sky remains a constant companion. In winter, the sun stays low on the horizon, casting long, warm shadows that accentuate the textures of snow and ice. Every icy branch, frozen puddle, and snow-covered mound reflects sunlight, creating sparkling patterns that shift with each step. The interplay of light and shadow highlights contrasts between the dark green pines, white snow, and frozen wetlands, providing endless opportunities for photography and observation. Walking in daylight allows you to notice subtle details in the landscape that would otherwise be hidden in darkness, making the hike a feast for the senses.

Even though the Northern Lights are primarily a night-time phenomenon, daylight in still produces unique atmospheric effects. Frost on tree branches glistens like delicate crystals, snow sparkles across open fields, and the cold air is so clear that distant features of the landscape appear crisp and vivid. The combination of sunlight, snow, and icy terrain makes every step a visual delight and ensures a safe, comfortable hiking experience during the day.

As the hike draws to a close

The forest opens once more to reveal the wider Arctic landscape. The final stretch allows you to take in one last view of Lapland’s winter beauty, breathe in the crisp, clean air, and reflect on the calm and quiet of Lapland’s wilderness. The daylight hike leaves participants feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and deeply connected to nature.
